Description
I designed a premium single-page website for Emerald Living, a brand redefining independent retirement with modern, rightsized “homes for life.” The challenge was to distill a multi-layered narrative—covering the emotional shift of downsizing, financial relief, and future accessibility—into a single-scroll layout without cluttering the UI or relying on traditional senior care tropes. My approach focused on creating an elegant, high-end digital journey using generous white space, bold typography, and intuitive visual hierarchy tailored for an audience prioritizing both luxury and accessibility. The result is a sophisticated, high-conversion landing page that seamlessly guides prospective residents and their families from practical lifestyle pain points to an empowering community solution.
Project Overview
Emerald Living bridges a major gap in the housing market: providing beautifully designed, modern homes for active adults looking to optimize their living arrangements long before “old age.” They needed a digital presence that matched this premium philosophy. I was brought on to design a single-page website that introduces the concept, builds trust, and drives inquiries, all within a seamless, unified scrolling experience.
The Challenge
The core challenge was balancing information density with aesthetic minimalism. The website needed to address several distinct emotional and practical angles: the burden of maintaining an oversized family home, the transition to a “home for life” with built-in mobility adaptability, and the reassurance of a secure, like-minded community. Packing all of this into a single-page format meant every section had to fight for its real estate, ensuring the messaging remained powerful and the layout uncluttered.
My Approach & Story
To tackle this, I focused heavily on the UX narrative arc of the page. I didn’t want this to feel like a typical retirement site, so I anchored the visual direction in premium, modern aesthetics.
- Emotional Hook: I structured the hero and top sections to speak directly to the freedom of the “empty nest” phase, validating the desire for independence rather than focusing on aging.
- Logical Flow: The single-page layout was intentionally paced to guide the user from a recognized problem (high maintenance costs of a large home) directly to the antidote (Emerald Living’s rightsized spaces).
- Inclusive UI Design: Designing for this specific demographic meant making accessibility a core aesthetic driver, not an afterthought. I utilized highly legible typography, strong contrast ratios, and comfortable click targets, proving that a website can be completely accessible while looking incredibly sophisticated.
The Result
The final design successfully reframes the retirement living conversation. By distilling complex lifestyle benefits into a focused, elegant single-page experience, the website positions Emerald Living as an aspirational next step. It delivers an empowering user journey for prospective residents and instills absolute peace of mind for their families.
